File is in use. Close related file(s) and try again

Problem

When attempting to check-out a document, you get the error “File is in use. Close related file(s) and try again”. This happens if the file is being used by another process or application.

Solution

Option A

Try closing any applications or open assemblies that could possibly be referencing this file.

Option B

Update your local MyWork workspace to make sure the document is on your local file system and up to date.
