How to add a numbering rule

Adding a numbering rule can help you organize your files with a unique readable number assigned to a part and link to external systems. Common use cases include part numbers and drawing numbers. To add a numbering rule, follow the steps below. Numbers have an optional prefix and an incremental 8 digit ending. Numbers are incremented within each prefix. Numbering rules will be automatically applied to new files. You must be an administrator to edit the numbering rules.

  1. Open the admin settings on the web app from the top menu settings icon dropdown > Admin Settings.
  2. Select Numbering Rules on the left panel.
  3. Enter the following:
Prefix – Text to add to the beginning of the number. For example, enter “PRT” for every number to start with the letters PRT.
    example: PRT10000001, PRT10000002, PRT10000003…
Type – The type of numbering rule, either numeric or alphanumeric.
    example: 10000001 OR ABCDEFGH

File Types – file extensions to include in the numbering rule. Separated by commas (,). Add a * to add the rule to all file types.
    example: sldprt,sldasm,slddrw OR *
  4. Click Add.
  5. Repeat to add additional numbering rules.
  6. Click Save when done. Logout and login again to load the document numbering rules before importing.
